There’s so many good things to tell you about. I have a CD release show and a Western Canadian tour coming up very soon. Last summer, between my Northern Ontario and East Coast trips, I went into Tom Althouse’s studio one evening and decided to lay down some tracks. I’m never sure of anything in a recording session but, by the moons of Jupiter, I recorded twelve songs in three hours! I just went for it. I wasn’t thinking or analyzing, I just played and had some fun.
After the success of my last album I wondered if producing something so stripped down was a good idea, but I’m very fulfilled. It was time for these songs to be set free. I had recorded a solo project in the past (‘Lucky Devil’) and I second guessed myself on occasion, wondering if it might sound more complete with some tasty instrumental touches. It’s always fun to hear what other musicians can add to my work.. and believe you me, I’ve worked with some of the best people out there.
On the other hand, I don’t play with a band. I play solo and I tell stories, and I’ve had many comments from folks that they like to hear the same thing that they hear at an Ian Reid show, so I’ve realized that recording an album off the floor, just me and my guitar, is a wonderful thing. I hope you enjoy it.
With each new album, it’s always favourable to have a proper launch party. Thanks to the good people at St. John’s Anglican Church in Rockwood, I have a wonderful venue to play. On Saturday, May 30th at 8pm I’ll be performing a concert in this wonderful church, located at the corner of Main and Guelph streets in Rockwood. The young sensation Thomas McIlwraith will be doing an opening set and the evening will be MC’d by storyteller and playoff-beard-grower-extraordinaire, Brad Woods. $10 Cover/$20 with a CD. Please RSVP at [email protected], so I can have a better idea of numbers.
From the launch party, it’s full throttle until the end of July.
I’ll be playing a house concert in Acton on June 6th. There are only a few seats available so please message me at [email protected] for details.
On June 12th at noon, I’ll be taking part in the Downtown Guelph Noon Hour Concert Series, located at St. George’s Square at Wyndham and Quebec Streets. Thanks once again to Sam Jewell for the great gig. Come and support the great businesses of downtown and listen to live music every Friday through the summer.
Later in the evening of June 12th, I’ll be hosting an open mic at Waterside Park in Rockwood from 7:30pm. I suggest arriving to sign up early. I’ll have a sign up placed out no later than 7pm. Around 8:30, we’ll hear a feature set by flamenco guitarist, David Catallo davidcatalloguitar.com, then we’ll resume with the evening. I will book-end the evening with short sets of my music. Waterside Park is located on Main Street south, just at the bottom of the hill from the stoplight. Just ask someone if you’re lost. Suggested donation is $10.
And then I’m off to the great Canadian West for several weeks. In fact I’ll be gone a total of six weeks but much of that time will be spent in Northern Ontario on my return home. Here’s how the tour looks:

Please, if you know people in any of these places, let them know I’m coming their way. Huge thanks to Bev Madden-Knight, Lowell Friesen, Brad Woods, Zachary Lucky, David Lum, Doran Hoge, and Eric Gradin. Without you, the connections wouldn’t have been made and the trip wouldn’t be possible.
Have a great summer season. Please stay in touch– I like hearing from people.
Thanks for reading.
